Basically I use 3 colours for the logo- red, black and white.
This is because less colour can reduce the cost for producing a logo.
Instead of using the original roaster icon, I change to a roaster similar to local chicken, or known as "ayam kampung". The concept of producing a roaster in black and white is due to the Malay's tradisional puppet show(wayang kulit). Dots on the tails of the roaster represent the seeds of Peri-peri (known as chili).
I put Hibiscus-Malaysia national flower in both sides of the logo, in order to create a more Malaysia based logo. The shapes of Hibiscus, which are inspired from Batik, known as national art in Malaysia.
Nando's is famous in cooking chicken with spices. Without a doubt, the chicken is hot and spicy. So, instead of putting a image of chili, I choose to use nature element such as fire or flame. Flame in red represents the Peri-peri.
Last but not least, the title of Nando's in black and white shows a contrast, easy to catch attraction as well.
